Programs and Resources
We Offer Comprehensive Support for Homeless Youth
Our Houston youth shelter offers a range of support services, programs and resources for young people experiencing homelessness, including:
- Outreach Services: Our Street Outreach Team actively engages with homeless youth in the Houston area Monday through Friday, distributing essentials like food, hygiene kits, blankets, and clothing, as well as referrals to services, medical care, and hotlines. Our primary goal is to establish trust and let youth know CHT is a safe haven whenever needed.
- Rapid Rehousing Program: CHT actively participates in the federally funded Rapid Rehousing Program, aimed at transitioning individuals and families from homelessness to permanent housing.
- Prevention Initiatives: PEP TALK is a program led by CHT Prevention Specialists who work with schools, community centers, and churches to educate at-risk youth and their parents in an effort to avoid homelessness before it occurs.
- Healthcare Services: Located on the CHT campus, the Dr. H Medical Clinic offers free healthcare services to youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.
- Education and Career Planning: We emphasize the value of education and encourage residents to pursue high school or GED classes, with many furthering their education through college or vocational training. We also provide job readiness and career planning to empower youth with the skills and confidence to get a job, explore career opportunities and work towards financial independence.
