Decriminalizing the Sex Trade Will it Protect or Harm Trafficked Youth Ad

At Covenant House, we see every day how pimps and traffickers target young people experiencing homelessness. We therefore know that many of those selling sex are victims of exploitation and are in need of social services, such as housing, mental health care, medical care, and vocational and educational training. During this live panel we'll hear from experts and survivors of human trafficking about why they are fighting for New York state to pass the Sex Trade Survivors Justice and Equality Act. This act decriminalizes those who sell sex, so that they can be offered social services in lieu of prosecution. However, if the buying or promoting of sex was decriminalized, it would increase the number of sex buyers and put more money into the hands of pimps and traffickers, thereby giving them more financial incentive to exploit vulnerable populations.
