April 23, 2008
(l. to r.) Covenant House Texas Executive Director Ronda G. Robinson, Sister Tricia Cruise, President of Covenant House, and Doris Robinson, Ronda's mother.
This is a special year for Covenant House Texas (CHT) as they celebrate their 25th Anniversary of providing shelter and services for runaway and abandoned children.
On Friday, April 11, more than 600 generous partygoers made their way downtown to the Hilton Americas-Houston to celebrate Covenant House Texas' 25 years of service to homeless youth. The evening generated approximately $730,000 in gross proceeds for the youth of Covenant House Texas (CHT).
The highlight of the evening's festivities was the presentation by Sister Patricia Cruise, President of Covenant House International, honoring CHT's Executive Director/CEO, Ronda Robinson, for her 25 years of dedicated service to Covenant House Texas. Ronda has been with Covenant House Texas since the doors opened in 1983 and has touched thousands of young lives since that time. Everyone agreed with Sister Cruise as she shared, "Covenant House Texas is so blessed to have someone so enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated as its leader."
It was a night of great moments! Cheryl and Bob Boblitt were honored with the 2008 Covenant House Texas Spirit Award. Besides the many hours they have devoted to our youth, Cheryl has been our CHT Guild President for two years and Bob, who is Senior Vice President/COO for Bud Light/Silver Eagle Distributors, L.P., has been CHT Board Chair for three years and is a founding member of the CHT Men's Alliance, a new volunteer men's group.
Especially moving was the inspiring words of Greg Hernandez, Covenant House Texas board member. Greg a former Covenant House Texas youth, now a Senior Vice President with Bank of Texas, told of the impact that Covenant House Texas had on his life many years ago when he was at a crossroads. Greg received a standing ovation after his moving speech.
The gala is coordinated each year by The Covenant House Texas Guild, a group of dedicated volunteers who have been supporting CHT and working with the youth for over 20 years.
