Covenant House Georgia
Established in August 2000, the mission of Covenant House Georgia is to provide care for homeless, runaway, and throwaway youth. Services include:
Crisis Center/Assessment Center
The Crisis Center is a 15-bed facility that is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week providing around-the-clock help to homeless young adults ages 18-21. Youth may stay 1 day up to 90 days depending on their individual needs. They are given immediate short-term help including food, clothing, a warm bed and, most importantly, unconditional love.
Street Outreach
Outreach van staff seek youth who are on the street from the hours of midnight to 8:00 A.M. providing food and a referral to our Community Resource Center for additional assistance. The Covenant House Georgia Outreach Program is the only program in the state serving homeless youth every night between the hours of midnight and 8 a.m.
Rights of Passage / Independent Living Program
The Independent Living Program is designed for those homeless youth diagnosed with a Mental Health or Substance Abuse problem but are stable enough with supervision for independent living. The staff will do Case Management for each youth regarding medical appointments, employment, and education. This new program enables young adults to make the transition toward independence over the period of five years. With Covenant House Georgia as the lessee, the resident will be required to pay 30% of their earned income to the program. Youth can leave the program when they feel confident in their ability to live on their own. The program requires a Coordinator, 1 Fulltime Case Worker and 2 Part-time Case Workers.
This program will annually enroll 30 youth.
Community Service Center
The Covenant House Georgia Community Service Center provides a safe atmosphere to meet the immediate needs of youth by providing nutritious food, clothing and other services. The center operates on a policy of open intake -- any youth can walk through the doors to receive services. No referral is necessary.
Case Management
Staff members work with each youth to meet his or her individual goals and to provide a continuum of care until those goals are met. Educational assistance includes General Equivalency Diploma and academic tutoring as well as vocational and life-skills workshops. Youth receive crisis counseling and intervention, health care services and the opportunity to participate in peer leadership groups. Staff participate in advocacy and community development efforts and promote family reunification when appropriate.
